Vittore Carpaccio
Ciclo di Sant'Orsola

The four different episodes of this canvas, from left to right, are: prince Ereo taking his leave from his father; the meeting between Ursula and Ereo; the betrothed couple salute the king and queen of Brittany; in the background, the betrothed couple leave for Rome. The standard-bearing pole separates the two worlds: to the left we have England, while to the right we have Christian Brittany, inspired, as in other paintings from the same cycle, by contemporary Venice, renewed by the architecture of Marco Codussi and Pietro and Tullio Lombardo.
