Natural light fills the scene and is intensified by the coloured marble pillars which create a prospective that is clearly Renaissance in style. The saints stand stiffly yet gracefully around Saint Sebastian. While Giovanni Mansueti is mainly known for his large-scale narrative cycles for Venice’s Scuole, this painting, from the church of San Francesco in Treviso, is testament to his work as a painter of sacred subjects, which were destined for churches throughout the Veneto area.
